A faithful presence of love in the absences of our city.

Pause, Breathe, Rest, Dab

Hey all, as we enter into the season of Advent, my hope for you is that you take a moment, pause, breathe and rest. My prayer for you is that this pause may help you consider and remember Jesus. I know I need this. Last night we paused as a family and did part of our advent devo for this week. We read Obadiah and talked about our enemies. We prayed that Satan, sin and death would be done away with and that Jesus would come and set things to rights. It wasn’t perfect. There was some dabbing I believe during O Come, O Come Emmanuel. Some preacher like reading from the Scriptures, not from me. There was some fighting, clamoring for attention, a race to be the first to find the Scripture and a little taunting when it was accomplished. There was some sighs and exasperation. But the pause reminded us of Jesus. We talked about the good news in vs. 17 and 21 in Obadiah about Mount Zion, about those who escape to that Mountain and the Savior that establishes it. The Savior that will crush our enemies. Pause. Breathe. Rest. A moment. A place for our sighing…our ugh-ing…our fussing…our fighting…our racing…our taunting…our dabbing. Advent is such a moment, such a place. The arrival of Jesus means that we will sigh no more. We will have in the words of Marcus Mumford, a love that will not betray, dismay or enslave us, a love that will set us free and make us who we were meant to be. Advent is having this love, waiting for this love, hoping for this love, banking on this love. So, we pause, we read, we pray, we remember, and we cry Come, Lord Jesus, Come. And then we dab. I hope you can take a moment this week to practice the waiting of Advent…Pause, breathe, rest, dab.
